Tessy Ngozi Okeze has officially resigned her membership from the Labour Party (LP), citing a decision to “pursue a different political direction.”
Saying she has already picked ticket under the new party to run for the the house of representatives.

In a statement released on May 1, 2026, Okeze expressed appreciation for her time in her former party but said she had “carefully considered” her next move.

“I appreciate the opportunity to be part of the Labour Party at first,” she said. “After careful consideration, I have decided to resign my membership from Labour Party to pursue a different political direction. I wish the party continued success.”

Okeze confirmed she is now aligned with the African Action Congress (AAC), declaring: “African Auction Congress all the way,” and ending her statement with the party’s slogan:“PEOPLE FIRST, ACTION ALWAYS.”

The move comes as AAC continues to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore, actively recruiting new members and pushing for “genuine alternatives” to the current political order.

Okeze’s resignation adds to a growing trend of politicians and activists switching parties as Nigeria’s political landscape realigns before 2027. Her departure from LP signals a shift toward AAC’s ideology of radical reform, anti-corruption, and youth empowerment.
