The Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Area Command, has urged its officers to boost revenue generation, strengthen anti-smuggling efforts, and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and discipline in their duties.
The directive was issued by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, during the Command’s monthly parade held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the command headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
In a statement signed by Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oshoba called for stronger operational interventions across all terminals to block revenue leakages while ensuring faster trade facilitation and timely cargo clearance.
“Officers must protect the reputation of the Service. Any delay by any officer concerning any consignment will not be tolerated, even at the gates,” he said.
“If a consignment is duly exited, there should be no delay at the gates.”
He urged officers to remain accessible and professional in their dealings with stakeholders, warning that any conduct capable of undermining the Service’s image or slowing the progress driven by the Comptroller General and management team would not be tolerated.
“We should not be seen as slugs in the wheels of progress,” Oshoba stated.
The CAC also directed officers to maintain heightened vigilance against smuggling, especially of illicit drugs and prohibited items. He cautioned against misconduct and improper dressing, stressing that discipline remains central to the Command’s operations.
As part of the parade, the Command rewarded officers and terminals for outstanding performance. *Assistant Comptroller of Customs Ismail Mohammed* emerged as the Most Outstanding Officer of the Month. *CSC Augustine Ondoma, ASCI Bukola Olaleye, and IC Olalekan Salawu* were recognized for professionalism, innovation, and punctuality, respectively.
In the terminal category, *APM Terminal* received the Excellence Award on Enforcement, while *ECO SUPPORT Terminal* won the Excellence Award on Revenue Generation.
Oshoba said the awards are designed to promote hard work, excellence, professionalism, and healthy competition across the Command.
