The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability with the signing of its 2026 Sectoral Performance Bond. The event, supervised by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, also showcased NIMASA’s notable achievements in 2025.

NIMASA Director-General Dr. Dayo Mobereola described the Performance Bond as a key tool for tracking deliverables and strengthening institutional accountability. He highlighted the agency’s reforms, driven by purposeful leadership and ministerial support, aimed at delivering on its mandate in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Mobereola disclosed Nigeria’s zero piracy incidents in four years, attributing it to enhanced surveillance and inter-agency collaboration. He also revealed plans to automate ship registry processes, improving efficiency and competitiveness. Additionally, he mentioned the agency’s progress on the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF), with over 60 applications received since January 2026, and Nigeria’s deposit of three conventions with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Minister Oyetola emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to using the maritime sector for economic diversification, job creation, and foreign exchange earnings. He stressed that accountability is non-negotiable and will be closely monitored. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Executive Secretary of Nigeria Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Pius, and the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho.
