The Cross River State Governnor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu has given assent for the recently passed into Law by the state Lawmakers to enable the Transformation of the state own College of Health Technology, Calabar to now become a Polytechnic for awards of Higher National Diploma and Ordinary Diplomas.
This declaration was made in Calabar during the signing ceremony to upgrade the former College of Technology to now attain the status of Cross River State College of Health Sciences, Management And Technology for a broader academic mandate to boost training capacity in all Health related fields while assisting the state and students to access external funding opportunities through aligning the institutions with National Standard.
In the same vien, in attempt to consolidates the Health sector reforms, the Cross River State own Hospitals have been henceforth provided with the Hospital Management Board Law 2026 which will be entrusted with a Central Management professionals body to over see the Public Management of the secondary Health facilities that will introduce Management Committees for all General Hospitals across the state.
For a holistic control and regulations of medical practitioners in the state, the Hospitals Management Committees will ensure for the registration of Traditional Medical practitioners in the state through the state Ministry of Health for improved service delivery.
On the state educational sector, Governnor Otu graciously approved for the creation of Cross River State Senior Secondary Education Board Law 2026 to provide for a dedicated team of Management of State owned Senior Secondary Schools. This new structures will introduce an administrative guidelines and positions that will attract benefits from the Federal Education Intervention funds,ensures delivery of quality education in the state.
In attempt to address the Sanitazation challenges of the state, Governnor Otu explained that mostly in the rural areas, the practice of open defecation (Prohibition) Law 2026 have been put in place as a measure envisaged to reduce Water borne diseases and improving public hygiene.
This however implies that the law has the mandates for everyone to provide toilets facilities at every homes, business premises including eatry/bars and other public places with consideration for gender sensitivity and persons with disabilities. This responsibility will be vested on the Establishment of the state Task Force on Water, Sanitation And
Hygienes (WASH) to ensure complaince and enforcement of the Law.
