Thousands of Nigerian youths and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Wednesday April 23, 2026 stormed the Abuja office of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, calling on him to join the 2027 presidential race.

The demonstrators, operating under the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan, occupied parts of the capital chanting solidarity songs and bearing placards with inscriptions like _“GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it!”_ and _“GEJ, if you no run, we quench.”_

Despite waiting for hours, the protesters did not see the former president. Sources said Jonathan had no prior knowledge of the gathering and made no appearance.

Sources said that organisers maintained that the nationwide clamour for his return to the ballot has become “loud and unmistakable,” vowing to sustain the pressure until he declares his position.

Former president Goodluck Jonathan, as at the time of filing this report has not made any official statement on the calls nor reacted to the call for him to re-enter active politics.
