The oldest beat association, the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, MARAN has congratulated the newly deployed Customs Area Controller, CAC, Send Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NSC, SEME Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi on his deployment as the CAC of one of the busiest borders in the country.

The group equally extended their congratulatory message to the CAC of Kiririri Lighter Terminal, Comptroller Timi Bomodi for his appointment as well as Comptroller Auwal Mohammed, the CAC of Apapa premier Command.

MARAN however, hailed the President General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Prince Adewale Adeyanju, on his election as the 1st Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Mr. Aminu Umar as the 7th President of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, NCS.

The elections of both Prince Adewale Adeyanju and Mr. Aminu Umar, the group noted did not come to us as a surprise as comrade Adeyanju remrited it.

According to a statement from the group, which was issued and signed by the Acting Prsident, Mr. Gboyega Oni and the Secretary Mrs. Peeerl Nwagwa on behalf of MARAN, it is on record that the MWUN President General, Adeyanju has distinguished himself as a man of the masses, particularly the maritime workers. Under him, Nigerian maritime workers have experienced and enjoyed improved working conditions and better wage/salary.

Serving at the national stage, Prince Adewale Adeyanju will certainly bring to bear his wealth of experience as a labour man on the lives of Nigerian workers. We wish him well and the better for Nigerian workers.

Mr. Aminu Umar on his own is a round peg in a round hole. As a seasoned shipping magnate and Managing Director of Sea Transport Group, Umar will definitely make a difference as the President of NCS because of his experience. We expect the Chamber to begin to come up with policies that will make meaningful impact on the industry.

On the Customs appointment, the three Comptrollers of Customs – Auwal, Nnadi and Bomodi – are well refined officers of the service, who have distinguished themselves in the services of the Nigeria Customs Service. MARAN has had a long-standing relationship with them particularly Comptrollers Nnadi and Bomodi who had served as Public Relations officer of Apapa Customs Command and National Public Relations Officer of the Service.

They are knowledgeable and competent. To us at MARAN, the Service stands better as their experiences will manifest in the execution of the Service mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation and suppression of smuggling.

The said they wish them all well and the best in their services to their fatherland.
