AHEAD OF 2023 ELECTIONS GOVERNMENT SECURITY AGENCIES SENSITISE NIGERIANS

Ahead of the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Armed Forces, security and other paramilitary organizations operating at the Badagry/Seme border axis have on Friday carried out a public awareness, sensitisation and road show demonstration within the Seme border station to display the readiness of the federal government to conduct next Saturday’s February 25, 2023 presidential and national assembly elections without any hitch.

The team of paramilitary organisation which was made up of officers and men drawn from the Joint Border Post Security Team (JBPST). And the JBPST Team which comprise of Nigeria Customs Sevice as Chairman, Nigeria Immigration Service, Police, DSS, NDLEA, NSCDC, FRSC, SON , NAFDAC, Port Health as well as the Armed Forces comprising of the Forward Operations Base, Nigeria Navy Badagry, Forward Operations Base, Nigeria Airforce Owode, and 243 RECCE Battalion Ibereko, Badagry were seen carrying out the sensitisation parade and demonstrations within the border area Badagry/Seme border station on Friday.

The Seme Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, who is equally the chairman of the JBPST, while addressing the audience, informed them that the show of force was aimed at giving the general public the reassurance about the readiness of Nigerian security agencies in its Area Of Responsibility (AOR), and also about the readiness of the security agencies to maintain peace before, during and after the elections in the country.

Comptroller Nnadi pointed out that the Nigeran Police is the lead agency the security mathers and that other agencies were just there to give their support to the police.

He however added that these security agencies are equally to support in building citizens’ confidence preparatory to the election.

The highlight of the demonstration was the convoy of security vehicles and perssonel doing a turn around the Seme-Krake axis.

The Seme Customs boss further said, “Why election is the preserve of the Nigeria Police as far as security is concerned, election is a key component of society and therefore, the military and all other security agencies have the onerous duty to support the police to ensure that elections are held with the full complement of security in place.”
