In line with the plans by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to see that developming maritime countries in Africa harnessed and maximise their potentials within the continent, the world maritime body has promised to assist the continent achiever that purpose.
The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr Kitack Lim made this pledged recently promised that the commitment of the world maritime body to assisting member states unlock the potentials inherent in Green Shipping is sacroscant.
The IMO scribe who stated this at the 7th Green Shipping Conference with the Theme: “Unlocking Opportunities for Green Shipping in Africa,” held in Ghana recently, re-emphasised the importance of that while reassuring that the IMO Secretary-General identified decarbonization as one of the challenges facing many developing countries, particularly in Africa.
Still reiterating IMO’s readiness to assist member states unlock the potentials offer by Green Shipping, Mr. Lim however reminded the participants at the confidence that the world body still believe in the ability of African countries to unlock the potentials.
On his own, the Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative (APR) to the IMO, Prince Abdul Dirisu restated Nigeria’s commitment to realizing Green Shipping.
A team from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, led by the Deputy Director Marine Environment Management Dr. Mrs. Oma Offodile were at the Conference.
