Mauryn Green Schools, one of the biggest schools in the Magbon Badagry area of Lagos State, has just held its first school inter-house sports event.
For the school, it was a dream come true.
The Director of Mauryn Green Schools, Chief Amos Adasa, who made this disclosure, said the school has dreamt of this for the past 15 years and that today, the dream to see the school host its first inter-house sports has come true this year.
The Director, who spoke in an interview with News Emperor online during the school’s inter-house sports event that took place at the Salvation Army Mini Stadium ground, Magbon Badagry, Lagos, said the school has been dreaming of having its students experience a well-organised inter-house sports event that will allow them experience the other side of physical education beyond classroom work, and that has come to be this year.
According to the director, “It is a dream come true. You know, this school is now 15 years old since we established it. We have been trying to have our inter-house sports. And the journey has been so tough and so tedious. But today the dream has come true. It was so successful. The weather was so nice and so friendly that everything went as planned.
“The turnout was so massive, the support was encouraging, and we believe that this is just the beginning. In subsequent editions, it will surely be better than this.”
Speaking of the students and the impact of the event on them, the director said they should see it as part of their academic progression in life.
“It helps to build their health and physical education too,” he told them, adding that being together is better than being divided.
The director of the school called on the Magbon community to take Mauryn Green Schools as their first choice.
“I just want to encourage every family in Magbon to take Mauryn Green Schools as their first choice. We do not only offer sports excellence, we offer academic excellence as well. Because we have been in this business for quite some time and the best is yet to come from Mauryn Green Schools.”
In his welcome address earlier, the director said: “It is with great joy and pride that I stand before you today as we witness a landmark in the history of our school — the maiden edition of our Inter-House Sports competition.”
He further added:
“At Mauryn Greene, we believe education goes beyond the four walls of a classroom. Today, on this field, we are building character, resilience, leadership, and unity. These are the qualities that will serve our children far beyond their school years.
“To our four houses — Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow — I say: compete hard, but compete fairly. The true victory today is not only in the medals won, but in the spirit of sportsmanship displayed. Respect your opponents, obey your officials, and remember that how you play is as important as whether you win.
“To our teachers and sports committee: thank you for your tireless work in making this day possible. To our parents: thank you for trusting us with your children and for coming to cheer them on.
“As we open this maiden Inter-House Sports, let us set a tradition of excellence, integrity, and healthy rivalry that future generations of Mauryn Greene students will be proud to inher.
While declaring the event open, the Mauryn Green Schools boss said:
“By the grace of God, I now declare the 1st Inter-House Sports of Mauryn Greene School officially open. Let the games begin, and may the best house win,” he told the students.
The event featured a variety of sports, both field and track events, drama, cultural dances, choreography, and many other side attractions.
The Blue House won the tournament among the four houses.
Students also won different categories of awards, and parents who equally took part in the 100-metre race received their awards.
