And the level of experiences we gathered. You were on the right path even when it was not easy, and you showed us how to take things step by step. Your brilliance and guidance have always spurred us to do better. You are not just a boss but also a mentor and a friend. I Know that we will continue on this path you taught us. Congratulations once more sir!”

While many encomium were poured on the out-gone DC over his outstanding performance within the period he served at the command, he equally advised his subordinates and the youngers officers who he was leaving behind to consolidate on what they have learned from him.

While responding to the various speaches about, the retiring but not tired Balogun said:

“I am very gratefully because where I came here I met briefly with my leaders, like I said earlier, but stand tall among those that have met him. My time is very but I am still going to say it the way I will say it. He is my brother and he will still remain my brother.

An Inspector of Customs, I.C. (Mrs.) Oladipo who worked directly with the DC Post Clearance Audit, DC Balogun. She has one or two things to say about her outgone boss.

“Good afternoon all! I have a lot to say. For those who don’t know, he (the outgoing DC) is my Daddy. So I will like to thank him for everything he has done. I have been with some senior officers and some Squard mates, and whenever they talk about him, even when he was not there, they oñly good things about him. He is a very pleasant officer to work with. He carries everybody along. If you are ready to learn, he teaches you. He is very good man, I will say, I have not heard any bad elements thing about him. But I have heard good things about him, so many good things, I have not heard bad things about him. He is a father, a boss. So, I pray that as he is retiring this time, it will be his best
time here on earth. God will open more doors, doors of blessing for him and his family in Jesus name amen!”

She continued: “Me and my squad mates we can’t express how much we love, we love, just we love you and pray that God will continue to lead you as retire and protect you and your family in Jesus name.”

On his own, a Superintendent of Customs, SC, U. D. Buma said we were making mistake by thinking that DC Balogun is retiring.
“The mistake we are making here today is that we are thinking that DC Balogun is retiring. I want to assure you that he is not retiring today. Because as long as some us are still in this job he has not yet retired”.

Superintendent of Customs,SC Boma said he regretted working with DC Balogun for just one year.

“I regretted working with him for just one year. I would have love to work with him for five years or ten years. But that one year has been like ten years”

He also promised not to disappoint the retiring DC.
“I will want to assure our retiring DC that we will make him proud. We do this job and we will excell. And we will tell people that we met you”.

While responding, DC Balogun said it is one the creator of the universe that we should be grateful to.
According to him, because many of us would have not come here today but because He has ordained it. So He is the only one that deserves appreciation.
I want to say He is the only one we. Should thank. I want us to thank Him for those things that we requested that He has done for us. We equally thank Him for those things that we requested for that He never did for us. For reasons best known to Him. So many things that we have never remembered to ask that He had graciously done for us. Even those things He continues to do them per seconds even when we don’t ask for them. I say may His name be glorified”.

He commended his biological parents for bringing him into this world and giving him the right education and moral training.
“I want to sincerely thank the vessel through which I came to this world for their guidance, for the privilege they gave through my education, for the mentoring and for the religious path that they showed me. May their souls continue to rest in peace!”.

DC Balogun equally thanked those who taught him in schools including the Affahs.
“I also want to thank my teachers, my Affahs for sharing their knowledge with me. Because like some of us will say, without them sharing their knowledge us we can’t be where we are today. And that is the reason when we wake up we must always remember them in our prayers. May God grant them long life and those that have died may God grant them internal rest”.

He (DC Balogun) however, appreciated those who have made his journey into the service very easy and successful.

“I want to thank those who contributed to my journey in the service, particularly, Chief I.O. Koida of the blessed memory, may his soul rest in peace”.

Speaking about himself, DC Balogun said he was a Lagos boy, born in Island in late sixties.

“Anyway, I am a Lagos boy. I was born in the Island in 1966”.

DC Balogun further used the opportunity created by the event to advise junior officers mostly those within Post Clearance Audit unit to do job thoroughly. He thanked them for honouring him even as he was retiring.

He equally advised his subordinates and the youngers officers who he was leaving behind to consolidate on what they have learned from him.

DC Wasiu Balogun retired from active service from the Nigeria Customs Service after putting three decades and half in the service to his father’s land.

***As He Urged Officers to Consolidate on Good things They Leanrt By Ambrose Obioma Okehi (News Emperor) The premier port, Apapa Command’ of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS was agog on.
