The Comptroller-General of Coustoms Strike Force Team A has seized a truckload of Cannabis, 225 mg of Tramadol, and other contrabands with a Duty Paid Value, DPV of Nine Billion, One Hundred and Twenty-Two Million, Seven Hundred and Ten Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty-five Naira (N9,122,710,355.00).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other items seized by the team include: 10 mg of Sildenafil Citrate, Codeine Cough Syrup, used tyres, Bales of second hand clothing, bags of foreign parboilled rice, Containers of timber. The team equally impounded Slabs of donkey skin and Pangolin Scales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was made known to journalists by the newly promoted Strike Force Team A Coordinator,, Comptroller Mohammed Sani-Yusuf at a press briefing held by the team on Wednesday in Ikeja, Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the team leader (Sani-Yusuf), the year 2022 witnessed a robust anti-smuggling drive, marked with tremendous success.
Remarkable among the seizures made within the period under review were: 225 mg of Tramadol, bags of foreign parboilled rice, Pangolin scale, Cannabis Sativa among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Particularly, the coordinator noted the truckload of Cannabis Sativa with a DPV of Five Hundred and Sixteen Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N516, 600,000.00).
While displaying the seized items to mediamen, the coordinator pointed out that all that was aimed at discouraging the business of smuggling because it is capable of destroying Nigerian economy, and could adversely affect the nation’s living standard.
This illicit business mainly favours only a selfish few who do not mean well for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Strike Force Team A, according to the coordinator at the briefing, recorded a huge success in the area of revenue recovery through Demand Notice, DN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: “The sun of Five Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty-Three Million, Five Hundred and Twenty Thousand and Seventy-Seven Naira (N5,,843,520,477.00) was recorded from January to December 2022.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Comptroller Sani-Yusuf further pointed out that “there was an increase of One Billion, Nine Hundred and Twenty-Eight Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty-Six Thousand, Two Hundred and Thirty-three Naira as against the sun of Three Billion, Nine Hundred Fourteen Million, Five Hundred and Fifty-four Thousand, Two Hundred and Forty-Four Naira (N3,914,554,244.00) generated in the year 2021, representing 55% increment when compared to 2021”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further warned smugglers and their agents against that their nefarious activitiesb would soon land them into heavy troubles as they would be arrested vigilant customs officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Let me once again sound this as a warning to all unpatriotic importers and their agents who go the extra mile in daring us. We shall not only make seizures, but our over-vigilant operatives will also get them arrested to face the full wrath of the law.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The coordinator assured that his team are not ready to give the smugglers a fight to a finish but have reinvigorated their round-the-clock operations, relying our their gallant and intelligent officers to suppress smuggling, and prevent revenue loss, because their commitment to doing better in 2023 and beyond is renewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He therefore, used the medium to thank and appreciated his boss who is the CGC, Col. Hammeed Ali (Retd.) and his team for their assistance and support to team A in achieving their goals. He added that this logistics support has helped them tremendously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The coordinator however commended his officers and men for giving him their u diluted support and loyalty.
