Tessy Ngozi Okeze has officially resigned her membership from the Labour Party (LP), citing a decision to \u201cpursue a different political direction.\u201d
\nSaying she has already picked ticket under the new party to run for the the house of representatives.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on May 1, 2026, Okeze expressed appreciation for her time in her former party but said she had \u201ccarefully considered\u201d her next move.<\/p>\n
\u201cI appreciate the opportunity to be part of the Labour Party at first,\u201d she said. \u201cAfter careful consideration, I have decided to resign my membership from Labour Party to pursue a different political direction. I wish the party continued success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Okeze confirmed she is now aligned with the African Action Congress (AAC), declaring: \u201cAfrican Auction Congress all the way,\u201d and ending her statement with the party\u2019s slogan:\u201cPEOPLE FIRST, ACTION ALWAYS.\u201d<\/p>\n
The move comes as AAC continues to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, with its National Chairman, Omoyele Sowore, actively recruiting new members and pushing for \u201cgenuine alternatives\u201d to the current political order.<\/p>\n
Okeze\u2019s resignation adds to a growing trend of politicians and activists switching parties as Nigeria\u2019s political landscape realigns before 2027. Her departure from LP signals a shift toward AAC\u2019s ideology of radical reform, anti-corruption, and youth empowerment.<\/p>\n
