The Global Transport Policy (GTP) Annual Multimodal Roundtable is set to hold in Lagos on June 17, 2026, bringing together transport policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and regional partners to shape the future of Nigeria\u2019s transport system. The event, themed \u201cTransforming Nigeria\u2019s Transport System: Integrating Solutions for Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability,\u201d will focus on advancing practical solutions to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability across the nation\u2019s transport networks.<\/p>\n

Over the past three years, it has grown into a key policy dialogue platform bringing together decision-makers from federal and state governments, industry stakeholders, academia, and regional institutions including the Economic Community of West African States.<\/p>\n
Nigeria\u2019s drive to strengthen domestic productivity and expand trade opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area places renewed urgency on improving transport infrastructure and logistics coordination.<\/p>\n
Current inefficiencies remain significant. Logistics fragmentation in Nigeria pushes distribution costs to between 20 and 30 percent of the value of goods, far above the global benchmark of 8 to 11 percent. In addition, only about 60 percent of communities have access to basic road infrastructure, creating barriers to market access and economic inclusion.<\/p>\n
According to Onoruoiza Mark Onuchi, Chief Operating Officer of Global Transport Policy, the roundtable will focus on bridging these gaps through integrated planning and stronger institutional frameworks.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigeria\u2019s competitiveness depends on how efficiently we move people and goods,\u201d Onuchi said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis roundtable is designed to bring together the public and private sectors to develop coordinated strategies\u2014from bonded multimodal corridors to a National Multimodal Logistics Council\u2014that can unlock safer, greener, and more efficient transport systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
The programme will feature a series of expert panel discussions covering critical areas of sector reform, including strengthening institutions and investments to build a resilient transport workforce, seamless mobility and integrated transport systems, safe and smart mobility, and reimagining transport for a greener future.<\/p>\n
A distinguished faculty of government officials, transport veterans, and private-sector leaders will moderate and contribute to the sessions, providing perspectives on policy, technology, and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
The President of Nigeria is expected to attend the event alongside senior federal ministers and heads of key transport agencies who will deliver keynote addresses.<\/p>\n
Discussions will also highlight recent policy developments, including the newly approved National Land Transport Policy of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Participants will examine pathways for stronger public-private partnerships, the deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems, and investment in low-carbon mobility solutions such as electric vehicles.<\/p>\n
Organisers say the roundtable is expected to produce actionable recommendations and partnerships aimed at accelerating corridor development, streamlining customs and regulatory processes, and ultimately lowering logistics costs for businesses and consumers.<\/p>\n
Global Transport Policy has extended invitations to corporate partners, development agencies, transport operators, logistics firms, civil society groups, and the media to participate in the dialogue and help translate policy discussions into measurable outcomes for Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.”<\/p>\n
