The recent surge in terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s northern region is alarming, with multiple attacks occurring in December 2025 and January 2026 as well as February 1, 2026.

Recall that on January 26, 2026, 177 worshipers were kidnapped from three churches in Kumin Wali Community, Kajuri Local Government Area, Kanuna State.

Equally, on February 1, 2026, terrorists attacked Agwara town, Nigeria State, setting a police station and a church ablaze, and abducting an unspecified number of worshipers.

However, in 2025, over 230 people, including teachers, pupils, and students, were abducted from Papiri community in Agwara Local Government Area.

These incidents highlight the need for urgent action to address the security crisis.
We at News Emperor are of the opinion that community leaders, traditional leaders, and religious leaders must work together to expose and stop the perpetrators.

The Nigerian government has taken steps to address the issue, including declaring a state of emergency and launching a working group to coordinate security cooperation with the United States. However, some argue that more needs to be done to tackle the root causes of the conflict, including poverty, youth unemployment, and social exclusion.
